Yell The pain of shin splints is sometimes unbearable after a run.  I have run successfully for over a season without this horrible injury.  I blew it when I started speed training to quickly and on top of that I had gained some weight back, so the stress on my legs has increased. Im taking a week off from running, iceing multiple times a day and taking ibprofen.  Any other suggestions to speed my recovery?  Should I drop back to a walk run when I start back up?  Id rather not if possible. What about supplements? I already take calcium.

Here is a cure for "shin splints". While sitting in a chair, take a bath towel and lay it flat on a bare floor in front of you, so it's at it's longest length. "Scrunch" the towel up with your toes pulling it towards you until you have gone the length of the towel. Now, "reverse scrunch" the towel pushing it out away from you. Do this exercise at least once a day for a couple of weeks and you'll notice a huge difference! My H.S. track Coach gave me this cure 25 years ago and it works every time!

Love those high school coaches! My soccer coach would make us walk halfway around the track on our heels (going forward) and the rest of the way around on our heels going backward. This we would do right before practices, games, and training runs. It helps a ton! Even if you don't go quite as far as he made us. :) I used to have major problems with shin splints and am cured now!
