Hello... I'm new to MapMyRide, so perhaps I am doing something wrong. But my route distances seem to be off by about 3-4km. A running route I know to be 4.5km appears as 8km. My commute, which Gmaps Pedometer claims is 8.5km is listed as 10.5km... Another route I plotted on Gmaps was 23.4km but MMR says 27... What's up?

    Hi Calantha-

Our maps should be as accurate (or moreso) compared to other online mapping services, and very accurate in an absolute sense.

The largest room for error in the mapping process is how precisely you map your route.  For example, for accurate distances while running on a road, you want to make sire that you are carefully plotting your line on the road-i..e through he bends and such.  To achieve this, it is sometimes needed to "zoom in" the map to see more details of the road.  We also provide a "follow roads" feature that should help with this.

If you want to directly compare our distance calculations to those from gmap-pedometer, we have the ability to import routes from it, so you can see how we "stack up".

Hi Jeff... The culprit was me. After zooming in I realized that by double clicking to add points on the map (as I was used to with Gmaps), it was double mapping my routes. After using a single-click my routes are now accurate. Thanks for your quick reply.
