Recently I was running with my dog, in Windsor Ontario.  The 11km run (the first with my dog) was nice though some un-shoveled sidewalks brought trouble.  My dog changed her stride and my stride was also offset.  I landed oddly on my right leg and tweaked my knee.

For the duration of the run I felt mild knee discomfort.  It has been a few weeks, some time off, and I am getting back into the routine however the pain is still present.

The pain occurs mostly 7km into a run and only when I release my leg behind me leaving my lower leg uncontrolled, depending on the forward motion of my thigh I can reduce the amount of pain.

Note: The pain occurs on impact, however the above describes my cause effect analysis of the injury.  Also, I can still perform a soccer style kick motion, run on the spot with no problem and perform (A's or B's) butt kicks.

Any ideas?  I am going to get to the clinic next week, but I thought that maybe someone here can save me the hassle of a clinic and physiotherapist who is just going to show me a few stretches (no offense intended to any clinicians or physiotherapists)

    Thanks in advance.
