I have research a lot on this, spent lots of money testing many products and thought I had the perfect high tech formula, only to have my bubble popped!  After finishing a Marathon about a year ago someone handed me a big bowl of chicken soup, the good hardy kind with chunks of chicken, vegetables and egg noodles,  I thought Chicken soup?  Some guy step up to me and said our team nutritionist said besides hydrating this is the best thing you can have after a long run. It has lots of sodium, protein, between noodles and crackers lots of Carbs, plus it  warms you up on a cold day, chicken soup is easy on your stomach that is why Mom feeds it to you when your sick.

My wife (who teaches an Advance College Nutrition Course) just smiled, all my high tech supplements were just blown away by Grandma’s Chicken soup recipe.

Now when I go on a long winter run I look forward to coming home to a nice hot bowl of hot chicken soup!

Fish and chips works pretty well.

I would agree homemade soup is good. I recommend veg soup for the morning of the race.

Definately not chicken vindaloo the night before Laughing

If you can't get fish and chips in the US (proper chips) then take your other half out for an Italian - and kill two birds with one stone.

Basically, anything on an Italian menu is good pre running faire...

I'm thinking, pasta, pizza, canneloni, things will loads of tomatoes

    Tongue out

Absolutely agree with the pasta, pizza, fish and chips, the night before or even an hour plus after a Marathon, the comment on the soup were immediate post run only. After all when stepping through the finish line after a Marathon I’m not looking for the pasta bar, I’m normally looking  for hydration and something light on my stomach.  I’m jealous of the Fish an Chips option I love good fish and chips!, but your right its not easy to find in the states.   Cool
