Help!: Advanced editting features?

There are some editting things that  I would like to do, but can't figure out how.  For instance:

 How can I delete a part of a route?  I would like to select two points and delete the part in between.

Can I link two existing routes together?

Can I select two points and have it tell the distance between them?

Can I add to an existing route?

There is nothing there that tells me what I want to do.  For instance:

I am mapping alternate commuting routes.  I would like to change the middle of the route to follow a different path.  I have mapped it with the "follow roads" feature OFF because the route follows a bike path.  Specifically, how do I select two points on the route, delete the part in between, and link the two ends together with a new route?

I have mapped sections of the commute as separate rides and would like to link them together.  Specifically, how do I do that?

I would like to extend an existing ride.  How do I do that?
