When I'm trying to add a new workout type, it won't seem to accept it. I've got the Create New Workout Type box up and picked the relevant ones from the choices there, clicked on Add New Workout Type, and then filled in the rest of the training info. However, when I click on Save Route, I get an error coming up saying 'Cannot proceed for the following reasons: You must create your Workout Type' and it brings up the Create New Workout Type box again. This has my pre-selected options already filled in, but it still won't let me save it. It doesn't matter what I do, I can't get it to accept that and save the route.
Is this a bug? Has anyone else had problems with this?
Yes, getting the same problem (see "how do I add 'Skipping'" thread). I'm using Firefox and haven't tried IE yet - perhaps it's a browser issue.
Generally speaking, it seems that this site's web code is overly complex - the forums are the most over-engineered I've seen and do a gazillion extra things that are really not needed just to have a community forum. It seems that the website's been designed with an unlimited budget and done by developers keen on using the latest and greatest web technologies, at the cost of alienating the users that just want to quickly read and write. I suspect the cost of maintaining this site will ultimately be it's downfall, but here's hoping the business model keeps it going as it seems to have potential.
Hmm, I'm using Firefox too. I notice that on the download centre page (http://www.mapmywalk.com/download_center) it says the site is compatible with Firefox as well as IE but it wouldn't surprise me that it's not actually been tested with Firefox and so doesn't work properly. It wouldn't be the first time! I'm running Ubuntu so I can't even check to see if it works in IE but it would be interesting to see.
I agree that the site itself does not seem particularly user-friendly. The layout itself is pretty poor, in some places to the point where items overlap and are illegible. It does seem that there are a lot of gadgets on here that are unnecessary and don't always work which is the quickest way to alienate users. Is there anywhere that we can feedback these kind of issues?
hi guys,
thanks for all this good feedback -- do you have browser settings or are behind a firewall where we can't dynamically update the drop-down lists?
Also, can you be more specific about the overlap stuff so I can take a look at it?
Cheers,

Kevin,
I'm using IE (same version as always) and for some reason today I can't add a workout type.......When I click on Activity Detail (why isn't this an optional field) it doesn't accept anything I click on (Quick Run, Long Run, etc.). After several clicks it seems to accept some things but not others, then it calculates the calories wrong (way understating them).
Did you guys change something? I hope not, I have really depended on this site for my training and would hate to have to find another...
Thanks!

I'm not behind any kind of firewall so that shouldn't be an issue. What kind of browser settings are you after?
As for the overlap stuff, there's some on this page as a quick example. The sidebar isn't wide enough for the items contained in it. The worst offender is the training calendar where the Daily Log Summaries for Sundays are covered by the ad that's right next to it. (see screenshot below.)
I've had all the above probs plus even when I have entered a time and distance for the run it doesn't want to give me a calorie calculation NOR a pace. Which makes it a fairly pointless exercise as I could just write in my diary the time and distance. I used to use a free runlog given away with Runners World and it was brilliant. I don't seem to be able to get hold of a 2008 version, but if I could I would abandon map my run as I spend longer fiddling about on the computer than I do running. Sorry to be so negative.

I am currently unable to create a new route as the map is not downloading - is anyone else having this problem? I am also having the problem of calories being understated when entering in new workouts; although when I go back in to try and readjust then it will re-calucate them approprioately but this is annoying and time-consuming.

Hello everyone, and thanks for your messages.
The calorie calculator issue has been taken care of, and our developers are currently working on fixing the ad banner issue. We really appreciate all of your patience as we get these items taken care of. Thanks!

Was there ever a resolution to the initial problem of not being able to save a new workout type?
I am trying to add a new workout. I mapped a route, then asked to add it to my training log, then I needed to make a new workout type in a pop up box (walking with 2 kids in a stroller) and now when I try and save any of the previously entered information I can't because it keeps saying I need to create a new workout type, bringing up the pop up box, I click on add (or create or whatever that button says, I should remember I have clicked it often enough in the last hour) and the box goes away but when I try and save the workout and route I get told again I can't. Arrrrrrrrrrrgggggghhhh!
