A number of Class 1 and 2 bike routes in Los Angeles County are not on the route maps. Since many of these routes don't follow roads, how can they be mapped?

    Hey ko6dr-

Have you tried using different map types while plotting your routes?  For example, many times some paths are visible on the "satellite" or "topo" views that can't been seen on the default map.  In addition, we have the new "terrain" map type in the beta route engine that gives you another option.

     I hope this helps,

    ko6dr,

I have mapped several bike routes by doing just what jeff suggested.  I use the satellite view, then zoom in to where I can see the bike paths.  At the same time you have to turn off the follow roads option and map the paths in short straight line segments.  I have done this with the San Gabriel River bike path that runs from Azusa all the way down to Long Beach (about 35 miles), as well as shorter bike paths that run along the foothills of San Dimas.  I also mapped the Madi Gras Century out of Ventura that went along bike paths between Ventura and Ojai for the first 20 miles.  The most difficult part is that because you have to zoom in to see the bike paths, it takes alot longer to map out longer rides, but it is doable.
