I've just had a ball setting up several routes on the maps and saved them. Then I've gone to 'My Runs' and find there's an option to click on a *.kmz file that opens Google Earth and takes me directly to my plotted course.

Only problem is, I'm in Australia & Google Earth flies me to, I think, America somewhere - and does this with all of the six or so courses I've plotted.

Can anyone explain this to me?

     Thanks,
    Mark.

    Mark-

Can you post a link to a route that you're having a problem with so I can look into this?

Thanks for your help. In preparing to put the link here, I've discovered that the problem has rectified itself. Could it be that when I came across the problem, I'd only just mapped out these routes & it's taken a couple of hours to sort of "register"?

However, I've come across a couple of other issues in the process. Sorry to be a nuisance but I figure you'd like to know.

The first is that I'm getting routes from different saved routes overlapping one another when they appear in Google Earth. Here's an example, but I'm having a similar problem with others:

This is correct (a sort of ladle shape to the run): http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/australia/taree/690852861

But if, on that page, I click "View this route in 3D (Google Earth)", I get the above route mixed in with another separate route I have saved in the same general area - they overlap.

The second problem has to do with accurate distances. I went to log a run for the first time after doing the run above which is just short of 6km. However, it shows up as 3km or in other places as 3.5km on the calendar.

    Thanks for your help,
    Mark.

    Mark-

Google Earth will allow you to view multiple routes at the same time, and it sounds like you are actually viewing multiple routes.  Note that you can check and uncheck individual routes to view inside of Google Earth to the left of the map.  There should be a mapmyfitness folder that you can expand to show all of the routes that you've loaded.

Thanks for that. That only leaves one question which I mentioned above: "I went to log a run for the first time after doing the run above which is just short of 6km. However, it shows up as 3km or in other places as 3.5km on the calendar."

    Mark,

Have you ensured that your time settings are correct?  (View->Show Time->Never)  Also, could you verify that the track's points are correct--is the route the exact same?  Are you sure that you (and the original poster) are using the same units of measurement?  (I ask because 5.69km is roughly equal to 3.5 miles.)  Where, specifically, are you seeing the 3km and 3.5km measurements (what calendar)?

The first problem - the route appearing in Google Earth on the other side of the world - is sporadic. Above, I posted that having returned to Google Earth, it appeared fixed. But later, I was whipped around the world again. Upon closer examination, I realized the track points were very different. It wasn't my route at all. The route I was looking at accurately overlayed roads & intersections in another country. So I'm baffled at why the link to my route is linked to someone elses.

The second problem - showing itself via Google Maps within www.mapmyrun.com (not Google Earth) - does appear to be based upon a mix up between miles and kilometres, as you said. In "My Profile", I have kg/km selected.

When I go to the homepage and click "Log Training", I'm taken to the calendar. On the calendar itself, where the little 'running man' icon appears, a window pops up when I hover over it. This tells me I ran 3.52 kilometers. I actually ran 3.52 miles (though it should be showing in the equivilent kilometers since I chose the metric system in "My Profile".

When I look above the calendar in "Training Summary", it shows, not 3.52 kilometers, 3.52 miles, or the correct distance in kilometeres, but 3 kilometers neat!

I does seem that this summary is a general summary, not an accurate one, since my weight is also incorrect. I specified 76kg - it shows as 76.7kg.

I'm really loving this website and it's features, but at present, it's proving a little frustrating.

I have the same kmz issue - my last run is in Orlando, according to the kmz. It was actually in Bulli, NSW, Australia.

    This is my run:

    http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/australia/bulli/1035407956

First time around I got 'Lake+Mary+to 436+kml' which is in Florida. Second ime I got the right file.

I can't find the Lake Mark one when searching so I really hope there isn't a privacy issue here.

Oh, I've kept both files if anyone wants them.

Lake Mary is where I was continually taken! If it was the same plotted course laid over the wrong area, you'd think there was just a coordinates problem - but these are someone elses runs - and two of us getting ol' Lake Mary!

I took the liberty of looking also at your training log. Unlike mine, yours shows in kilometres exclusively. But I also notice that you have a very specific body weight listed: 85.73kg. Did you somehow specify that or did the website give that specific weight to you? I chose 76kg and got 76.7kg.

For those having issues with the kmz link, are you using the link toward the top of the view route page (view in 3d?), via the toolbar on top of the map ("Save->As google earth"), or both?  Does one work and not the other?  I'm trying to track this down asap.

     thanks

I also get the Lake Mary route in my KMZ download (from my rides list) and I'm New Zealand based. If I try to save from my map viewed ride as either KML, CRS, or GPX an empty file is returned.

     Cheers,

    Ron

Yep,it's the Lake Mary for me as well.

I have just finished mapping a bike race from Strasbourg to Ballon d'Alsace http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/france/strasbourg/285352718

It's a 215 km bikerace organised by ASO on the 23. of september, and me and a couple of my friends are going, www.letapedelegende.com

When I try the "View this Route in 3D (Google Earth)" a new browser window opens, but nothing else happens. And the "kmz" link from "my rides"- list, all give the Lake Mary route.

I was really looking forward to the GE experience of the race, and I am still hoping it will get solved.

Thanks to the community for bringing this issue to our attention.  I believe I have just fixed the kmz issue (note that the link now states "kml", because strictly it is a kml file).  The kml file is still a Google Earth file, and it should now be generated faster than ever.

Thanks Jeff, the file name has been corrected and I no longer  go to Lake Mary though the KML/GPX files are still coming through blank for me (see my previous posting). Feel free to poke around my rides to see if you get the same result.

    Cheers,

    Ron

I have the same problem as moreRon. The names are now correct and I also don't get the Lake Mary route anymore, but the KML files are blank, both from the "view this route in 3D" and from "my rides" list

I'm having a similar problem as moreRon, but only with one file.  I created this file - http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-states/tx/bandera/378027880.  When I try to save it out as a GPX, the file is blank, other than some link information for topographix.  When I load the KML, either by saving to my computer and opening or opening straight from Map My Run, nothing shows up.  All my other routes seem fine.  The only thing I can think of that is different is that I have points that have turn directions.  Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi folks-

Thanks to your feedback, I identified and fixed some bugs in our kml generation.  All of your kml links should work now, enjoy!
