I have been overweight for years (currently a size 20/22 bottom and 24 top) and started jogging just after Easter this year in a bid to lose weight and improve my fitness. I always thought I would never be able to do it and have really surprised myself (and everyone else!) that I have continued. I would consider myself pretty fit as regularly do crossfit workouts and jog 2-3 miles 3 times a week (I'm slow but at the moment I'm happy to be able to do the distance) I did a 5K recently, still in my usual leggings and oversized t-shirts, as I didn't want to spend alot on gear until I knew I was committed to it, but have registered for a 10K and really need to get some proper running clothing. Does anyone know where I can get some gear that would cater for my size? I'm not into the whole skin tight stuff, which is all I have found so far (if I was a size 10 they would look fab!), but I would like to try and disguise my lumps and bumps as they gradually disappear and am looking for something that is not as fitted and would cover my bum a bit! Any ideas would be most appreciated.
Many thanks x
ps - absolutely love this site, so glad it was recommended to me, it's given me so much inspiration and motivation
I recently shopped at Kohls and found that Danskin, TekGear, Russel, and even Nike have nice gear (pants, shorts, capris, bras, tops) that aren't tight, just nicely form fitting. I am dealing with the same thing, trying not to accentuate the size 14 but get it fit ;)
Copy and paste that into your browser address bar. The clothes look like regular work out clothes, and are cute, NOT frumpy!!! I think you will be pleased w/ what you see on the site.
I hope that helped! Good luck in your endeavor, seems like you are on the right track!
I recently discovered nice sportsbras from Jockey. Also, as a larger woman myself, I like to wear spandex shorts under my loose-fitting shorts. That way I look okay (no way am I wearing just spandex in public!) but nothing rides up between my legs either.
Target sells Champion gear as well. Sometime I buy men's running apparal because they cut it a little more generously. And they make the shirts longer!May I also suggest maybe a run skort. I found one from Danskin a couple years ago and love it. As the weather warms up eventually.. You may really like a run skort. Keep up the great work!
I'm having a similar problem finding running gear in my size (20/22) and just came across a website that looks phenomenal--just placed my first order today, so can't totally vouch for it it yet, but I'm very impressed with the selections and styles--check it out!
