Well, it now takes my computer about 5 minutes to draw my route when I click on it or try to edit. After the first draw, it works fine.

Anybody else having problems with their routes?

I have had a few problems. I am now using Firefox3 and most problems have gone away. However, the few problems that have arisen have been taken care of once I emailed MMF at the contact us below. I have found them to be very responsive and appreciative of positive feedback.

    Good Luck.

Maybe I'll upgrade to Firefox 3.0.  I'll definitely contact MMF, thanks for the tip.

How long does it take you to open my route?

I found this in the New Site Design thread in the Lobby:

    aea@mmf:

I've been following the slow route engine bug, if it is causing problems for you, go to /create_pick or to your profile and change to the old mapping tool.

Probably the best solution while they fix the route engine problems.

    Steve,

I tried to open your route and got the script running error. My rout opened up fine. Of course I don't have as many miles logged, but that shouldn't matter. I too have been following the new site design thread. It seems as if they're working on it at least.

Stevecyle, it takes me about thirty seconds to open your 1000+ mi route on Safari, the rest are much much faster. Firefox 3.0 has one of the best JS interpreters on the market, much better then IE :)

Thanks aea.  I've tried both Firefox 2.0 and 3.0 now on two different PCs.  3.0 is a little faster but still several minutes.

I recognize this route is far beyond the design of your site, but it used to be very responsive in the old route engine. And these virtual routes are really fun!

I feel your pain! I have been checking multiple times throughout the day to try to edit my route. Hopefully it will be back soon.

Sorry guys, I've been gone for a while.

What's the deal w/ the new mapping thing? Not that I've logged very many miles though...still curious.

They seem to have taken the editing function away while they "fix" it. Frustrating to those of us in this group that edit their routes with any frequency.

I need to get out of North Carolina....

I looked at a two other sites this morning, bikely and bikemap.net

Neither of them provide much beyond basic route mapping and input from .GPX or Google Earth files, no import straight from my Garmin.  And they don't have the training logs that I use here.  So I'm sticking it out here and see if they can fix their editing problems.

I also tried to load my morning ride into motionbased, and they seem to be having problems too.

I'm sure they'll get everything fixed. It's just a matter of when. There are some pretty honked off people on some of the message boards. Personally, i don't think it's too bad. Yes, I enjoy watching my virtual route get longer (trying to catch you, Steve), but other than the training log, I don't use much else.

Ok, well I'll just keep logging it and update when I can. Oh well.

So, how many will be upgrading to the "premium membership"? I for one, won't be. I'm pretty happy with what I have.

I'm seeing the pain. My route should be around 432mi now and it's only showing 300. That could be a big difference. I'm really hoping to lay down some miles this week too, so that will be a major disadvantage too!

Ha - good luck!  I'm working in Minneapolis this week, commuting by bicycle 35 miles every day.

Wow! I wish I could do that. Here in AZ it's a little too warm to to any commuting (besides, it wouldn't work with my job). I just need a goal or a person to tryto catch.

Well I have been still keeping my log and up to 217 miles. No idea where that brings me but I guess one day I'll have some work to do once they get this working.

Editing is back on.  I just edited my route, and it was a painful experience.  It still takes about 5 minutes to draw my route.  Adding points works fine, using the auto-route feature works fine.  But if you MOVE a point, get ready to sit for a long time - seems to take another 5 minutes while your CPU churns.

And the placement of a moved point is messed up.  You grab and drag the last point to get your mileage just right, then after you sit for a long time, the total mileage changes.  I just gave up.  It's close enough.

I really miss the old route engine.

You aren't kidding. I just edited mine and it was actually missing several of my miles, that I had to go back and add. I found that the "auto route" feature was putting loops in my trek for some reason. It wasn't working very smoothly.

Oh well. I have mileage, and I'm moving right on along now. Hopefully it'll work for the next time I edit b/c that was rough!

I just got in to edit again this morning and all the miles I added yesterday are gone.  It's weird - in the route table, it shows the extra miles, but when I clicked to edit the route (and waited 5 minutes), my route had lost about 80 miles.

I'm going to wait until next week to edit again, see if they can get things working.

I SURE MISS THE OLD ROUTE ENGINE!!!!!

That was mostly my issue Steve. It stinks.

I want the old engine back too :(

Yay for the edit function returning. Boo for the issues that are still there. I should have mine updated tomorrow sometime, too busy at the moment.

I found (and this was with the old mapper too) that I had to be careful when plotting on Interstates. If you click on the lane going the opposite direction it will take you down to the next exit and back. Similar things happen around on and off ramps. Lots of loops and what not.

I have never experienced this before in any of my real life maps since I don't make it a plan to run on interstates.

I like the idea of combining our miles to catch Steve (it'll probably just make him push harder and farther though). Let's catch him. ON YOUR LEFT, STEVE!

Another day, another 35 miles. Today I crossed over the 1500 mile mark. Catch me if you can!

Seriously, commuting here in Minneapolis is fantastic. They have huge wide shoulders on the roads, bike lanes in the middle of downtown, and beautiful rail-to-trail conversions into the city and along the light-rail line. Here's my route to work, which takes me about an hour each way:

I too have been eager to add onto my route albeit I have been keeping my training log. I went to create a new route on the NEW route maker and ended up in a neverending loop of the earth. I felt like Superman for a moment. Then Lois brought be back down to earth.
