    MK1,

I'm trying to contact the author of the study for the METS calculation to ask them what type of smoothing would be best accurate.  I would hate to add a linear and then find out it's a lot softer.

I'll post an update when I hear from them.

Unless any other users reading this may have a suggestion on how to better estimate the values between the step values currently used in the METS tables?

    -Kevin

    Kevin,

To be honest, I could care less about the 'calories burned' data, especially now that I have no faith whatsoever in them.  I'd rather see the climbing data from Routeslip, as well as the ability to report on it.  I really wasn't looking for much more than that when I was on Routeslip.  I found the mileage/speed data, coupled w/ the climbing data to be what I needed.  And I'd sure love to get last year's data!

And that comment about working the weekend of the 4th was made why?

We are providing the raw climbing data as a csv export when you view elevation -- let me know if you have problems downloading it.  This is direct data from the last SRTM USGS data we have on our servers  based on the lat/long coordinates along your route.

    http://srtm.usgs.gov/

Here is garmin's response to the same question about ascent/descent based on their real-time data recording:

    http://www8.garmin.com/support/faqs/faq.jsp?faq=139

Also, I've reached out to the old owner of RouteSlip to see if he still has your training data so I can pull it in for you.

does the new mapping tool work for you now that we've released it? Can you clear your internet cache and try? I logged in as you and editted your route adding the water stop near the end (underneath the overpass).

And the reason we pulled the Lobby from the homepage was that it was generating a lot of negative responses -- from our users that love the site, from our employees, from our investors.  To be really frank I have put my heart and soul into this company, working 60-70 hr weeks, trying to make ends meet while providing a free service for 3 years now. I apologize if you feel that we have no class and all you can offer is negative criticism.

True, we have had some growing pains and this transition has not been the smoothest, but please do not think we're not diligently working hard to address every single issue.

If you would like to address anything specifically, please don't hesitate to email me at kevin@mapmyfitness.com

    Cheers,

    -Kevin

The additional tip about clearing the cache seems to have made the difference. Now I clear my cache after every save and the marks seem to be preserved on save. Thanks a lot.

Naturally, this raises the question, why do I have to clear the cache to get this sort of update? Shouldn't the updated Notes information cause to browser to get a new copy from the server on reload? Or couldn't the updated data be put in the local cache? Surely there's a solution more elegant than me blowing away everything in my browser cache every time I save notes on a route.

Don't get me wrong; I am very pleased with the help you've given me and am totally willing to use this workaround. I spent all afternoon Sunday looking at other mapping sites and came to the conclusion that with all its current warts, MMR is the best mapping site around. Thanks for all your hard work and keep at it during this major and valuable if somewhat rocky upgrade.

I got a bunch of notes added and fixed up the markers on several of my routes and was really very happy with things. Then, on my lunch break, I went to check the last route I'd updated and do another one, when I discovered that the notes were gone, as well as the markers, and that the route was all of a sudden being marked in bright red. What the? If you all are in the process of doing maintenance or major changes, that's OK, but could you at least have the courtesy to put up some sort of notification so that we don't think we're the ones going crazy?

Still in bright red, but markers and notes are back. Stay on target, almost there.

Can we get some sort of response as to the login issue? I'm really quite annoyed with having to log in every single time I visit the site, even if I just was on the site 5 minutes ago. In fact, tonight while entering my info from this weekend's triathlon, I got logged out while still on the site in between entering my bike and my run. What's the deal here, guys? It's been asked multiple times (by multiple people, no less), but other than asking what kind of browser I was using, there hasn't been any response. Is this being looked at? Is it low priority? Do you not care at all about this problem?

    gbeckman,

I've been researching this issue -- let me take another look this morning.  We're unable to reproduce it in house and several users we've contacted have anti-spyware software that was deleting our login cookie.  Is this the case for you?

    Cheers,

    -Kevin

I don't think so...I just took a look at my cookies and had no fewer than 19 cookies from the mapmy* sites. As far as I know, there isn't any software on my pc restricting cookies. And this problem only started when the site upgrade went live, I wasn't having any problems before that.

    RE: Logging In

As far as I can recall, the "Remember Me" option has never worked.  Not on the old site, not on the new site.

I use Firefox 2.0.0.16, WinXP on an IBM laptop at work, and Firefox 3.x, Vista Ultimate, on my PC at home.

The only settings  in Firefox that I change from default is "Remember Passwords" option...I turn it off.  I can't imagine that would cause any issues, because that would mean that Firefox is deleting the cookie MMR sets.  I log into several other places with a "remember me" function and they work fine.

Remember Me has always worked fine for me.  Until yesterday, that is.  Now I seem to have to log back in frequently.  Firefox 2.0.0.16, WinXP.

I don't have any problems with other sites using their remember me function. I'm also using Firefox 2.0.0.16, with Vista.

FWIW, I had this page up and went to feed my toddler lunch. When I came back about half an hour later (page had been up the whole time and my laptop did not hibernate or go to a screensaver or anything), I had to login again when I went to reply to this thread.

That is not correct Kevin.  On my browser, Remember Me stopped working right about the time you posted that message.  Still not working this morning - if I'm inactive for an hour or so, I have to log in again.

Yeah, still not working here, either. It was working last night, at least to the extent that if I navigated away from the page and then came back, it didn't log me out (which it had been doing). But, had to login again this morning.

This thread seems to be the most active, so I apologize for posting my issue in two threads.

When I map a run and save it, all I see is the markers.  The red line is gone.  I can see it in the edit mode, but not in the link I need to share with our running group. Any suggestions?

Here is one of many examples.  If others can see the line, I guess it is a bwoser issue for me.

Ah ok -- two issues then:

    1) Remember Me not working -- I believe this is fixed as I can see the cookie and it's set to expire in a year

    2) Session Expiration -- I'm looking into this now.

    Cheers - Kevin

    Here's one.

The ads cover up the 'drill down' of the days on the calendar of 'my training'.

And I can't believe that you guys hid The Lobby because you were getting negative feedback.  Lame.

Routes apparently being saved incomplete. I'm trying to save a route with loads of notes showing mile markers, turns, water/bathroom/food stops, hazards, etc.

Last night I mapped the whole thing, editing the notes as I went due to the limitation to only editing the last 50 points, and when I went to view it after saving, it had been truncated to 4.02 miles from 17+. Today, I have been saving more often and refreshing a view of the map and found it got truncated at 4.02 again. What was really weird was that when I viewed it after saving at 4.5+ miles, it was OK, but when I saved it at 6.25 miles, it had been truncated at 4.02 miles.

Here's the link to the (truncated) map I'm working on:

    http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-states/tx/austin/746861300228

Note that the automatically generated distance that displays with the map name shows 6.25 miles, but the distance shown in the map itself is 4.02 miles.

Link changed. I tried saving and renaming and the route linked above wound up getting deleted. Here's a fresh link:

I've played around with this some more and now suspect it relates to use of ampersand in notes. For now, avoid these as they seem to cause problems.

Hello I'm not sure if this has been adressed. The calorie counter works fine for me on everything except on my training program. I'm doing the marathon training and when I autocalculate the calories it is very low. IE a pretty fast 10 miler it calculates 400+- calaries.  Thanks in advance
