    Hi,

Are there any plans to change the way MapMyRide calculates elevation change over a ride? The current data is spurious at best (a recent ride I entered has over 4000 feet of climbing as corroborated by GPS and other software - MMR says 2333 ft. - http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/ny/tully/134384660).

I can't download the elevation data into Excel anymore w/o a premium membership, but in the past I noticed that there was a fixed number of elevation points taken from the rides regardless of distance (something like 502 points), so a 10 mile ride would have much more accurate elevation change data than a 100 mile ride - especially on a course with short rolling hills.

I can't see paying for a premium membership unless that problem is addressed - from searching the forums it seems this has been reported before, but hasn't really been acknowledged as a problem from the site management.

Also, FYI - the meters/feet elevation units are reversed currently in the "Route Info" box, but not on the elevation profile.

    Thanks,

    Colin.

I have to agree that the elevation data seems to be a bit skittish. Gives a good general idea, but hills seem a bit small sometimes and valleys show up out of nowhere on the elevation profile. Love the site, though and I am considering the premium membership anyway. If these elevation glitches were addressed, it would be a no brainer.

It's one of the few issues we're taking a close look like, the accuracy is dependent on the data source and we've yet to settle on a good one.

Skittish & spurious are good descriptions.  I first came here a few days ago for the purpose of seeing if you could give good climbing data for rides.  I put in a ride that I knew some rough #s on.  The elevation/climbing numbers it gave were WAY off.  Not even close.  Just now I went back to look at the same, saved ride & the elevation data is totally different.  It is now pretty close to what I expected, though I don't know really accurate numbers.

     What causes that?
