Hi there. I am new to this forum. Can anyone recommend a training schedule for running a half? I am running my first half on Nov. 25 (Seattle). Right now, I can easily run 5.5 miles...so I know I have a long way to go between now and Nov. 25. I'm also doing regular strength training. However, I know nothing about long runs vs. recovery runs...and when to stop packing in miles before the big day. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I've been following Hal Higdon's half marathon for beginnners schedule, albeit casually. It's been good to know that I'm at least meeting my marks, and helps me to know when I need to push the mileage up when I've missed a day. Start here: http://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/index.htm.

Some have suggested Jeff Galoway's guide, whch I believe follows a similar path:(http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/half_marathon.html).

Either one and you should do fine. The big turning point in my training was addding (at Higdon's suggestion) a long run on the weekend. I'm running anywhere from 9 to 12 1/2 miles on Sat. or Sun., and feel it has helped a lot with my conditioning as well as my state of mind.

Good luck on your run. Mine is in a month, and to my great surprise I'm really looking forward to it!

    Thanks Changingground,

These are great sites. I like Hal Higdon's program. Seems easy to follow. I am nine weeks away from the run, so will jump in at week four. Good luck on your run!

Hey DogSports, I am in the same boat as you with a 1/2 marathon.

Check out this site,Runners world.com & check out the" smart coach" section. Answer some questions about distance & trainig weeks etc,etc & it will lay out a plan for you in about 30 seconds.

DogSports & changingground, good luck to you both.
