Yesterday morning a friend and former co-worker failed to yield crossing a road while riding his recumbent on a local bike trail. Dave was hit and killed by a 19 year old girl who had no chance to stop. Dave was an avid cyclist, a long distance runner, and a kayaker. He was a husband, a father, and a grandfather. He had probably crossed that same country road 500 times without incident. Now family and friends mourn and a 19 year old girl will probably spend a long time wondering if she could have done anything to avoid the inevitable. Stop at stop signs. Ride safely.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

Every May 20th at 7:00 PM there is the Ride of Silence honoring those who have been killed or injured while riding. Check out www.rideofsilence.com.

Your friend and former co-worker would be honored if you participated in or organized a ride.

We did one here in Phoenix last year for the first time and it was a huge success.
