I'm new to the Northern VA area so I'm having a hard time finding a hilly area to practice hill runs.  Anyone out there know of any good, killer, OMG she must out of her mind to run up that hill?  Or is this something I'll need to venture out to PA for?

What part of NOVA are you from? I used to run cross country in Sterling and we had a hill that we used as part of our hill workout. It's off route 7, between Sterling and Leesburg. If you're near that area I'll see if I can remember exactly where it is for you.

You don't have to go to PA, that's for sure!  Where are you?  There are some good hills if you look towards the west, near maybe Purcelville.

We've got plenty of arduous hills in my neighborhood in Centreville.  The trick is to get a little further out west.  Or south - the Charlottesville area has some great hills.

There are a couple good-sized hills on the Custis Trail in Arlington. One of them is down closer to Ballston and the other one is right where the trail hits Rt. 29. You will frequently see people doing hill sprints there. Also the Mt. Vernon Trail has some good hills close to Mt. Vernon.

I live in Arlington not far from Wakefield HS. I've done this run a few times. I called it Killer Hills because of the 130 foot elevation change in less than a quarter of a mile before the 2 mile mark. Let me know what you all think.

So if you're looking for hills in NOVA this is the hardest I've done.
