    Hi
I'm considering a Garmin Vista HCx unit for road and mountain biking. What I would ideally like to do is imput routes (Map My Ride?) that I could follow rather than Cue sheets, since this is cumbersome for longer rides.
Is this a good GPS unit for this purpose? Seems reasonably light with good battery life.
    Any other recommendations?
Any recommendations for acquiring and imputing the routes?
The reviews I've seen for the Garmin Edge (605, 705) for this purpose are not good and I already have a good computer for speed, cadence etc.

Thanks for any info or suggestions!

I've got a Garmin 705 and have been very pleased with it so I was suprised when you say you've read negative reviews.

I can create routes with mapmyride and import them to the 705. Then I just choose the route, hit start and ride. Haven't used a cue sheet since I got the 705. The data screens can show up to 8 readouts(speed, cadence,hr,grade, etc) and you can choose from over 20 different readouts and decide what order they are displayed on the screen. The battery is rated for 15 hours and I found that it lasts between 12-15 depending on how bright I set the screen. the 705 is expensive, but I think worth the every penny. The only problem I have had withthe 705 is that it has ocassionaly frozen but then I just reset it and it's fine. All the data is still there. I also like being able to download my rides to the training center program so I can track my progress.
