    Hey,

I am relatively new to Seattle and I know of a few trail routes in the north Seattle/Shoreline area (Carkeek, Arboretum), but I am looking for more.  As much as I love breathing exhaust and pounding my joints on concrete, I love getting lashed in the face by low-hanging branches and relaxing my way through potentially career-ending ankle rolls over exposed tree roots more.  Any ideas?

I'm not from the Seattle area but have spent a bit of time there. I know that up past the Auburn/Enamclaw area there are some nice hiking trails that could double as good running trails. The forest service has good documentation on many of these trails. They are a bit of a drive from where you might live, but I say its worth it for a run in some of that beautiful terrain.

I know this was posted a while ago, so not sure if you will check on this response or not... I lived in Seattle all of my 38 years before moving to Phoenix 18 months ago. I have been trying to get off pavement as well, as the concrete is taking it's toll on hips and knees! I visited Seattle last November and my old Seattle running buddy signed us up for a 10K in Des Moines. It was a very small, very organized trail run that was very friendly and I would highly recommend any of their events. I think their website also lists some resources for discovering other trails. http://www.nwtrailruns.com/ Check it out! Dana

DISCOVERY PARK!!! It's the best. It has tons of trail options, stairs if you want to add those and breathtaking views. It also stays relatively dry in the soggy weather (unlike the Arboretum - which I also happen to love).

Also Cougar Mountain Regional Wildlife Park in Issaquah. I've lived in the Seattle area all of my life and have always enjoyed those trails. I think the Seattle Running Company hosts trail runs on Cougar Mtn almost every weekend.

I'd have to second the recommendation for Discovery Park.  Awesome loops with everything you'd want.

Bridal Trails state park in Kirkland is a great place for a long trail run.  You may have to step aside for the occasional horse but I haven't encountered to many.  Trails there get muddy quickly so I prefer it in dry weather.
