    Folks,

Is there a way without a GPS device to determine total miles climbed on a cycling route?

    Thanks, Dave

If you map your ride you can download a .csv file of the route.  This displays distance traveled waypoints and corresponding altitude (in feet).  You can calculate your total feet climbed easily from this and then convert to miles.  Beware, I'm not sure of the accuracy.  I just got a GPS device and the total ascent on it didn't match (didn't come close even) to the total feet climbed that I calculated from MMR.  I'm not sure which is more accurate, but over 5.5 miles MMR shows 200 feet more climbing.

It depends on the Gps unit.  Some do not have altitude recorded.  Another web site called routeslip.com will calculate the amount of total climbing on a route.  I am new to this site and I do not know if it does it for you or not.  Routeslip seems to be pretty accurate compared to gps recorded altitude.

    Wasn't Routeslip.com bought by mapmyfitness.com???

So, isn't this essentially the same tool??

It would be great if Mapmyride could do this calculation. The data is all there, and while as an inexperienced Excel user I was able to figure out the formula for total climb in just a few minutes, it would be convenient if the website could do that calculation for us.

What I don't understand, is that this feature was available on routeslip.com, which supposedly MMR aquired and integrated into their site.  RS had a nice graphical report that showed your distance and total climb for a given ride.  All of my old RS rides were migrated, but the climb data on MMR isn't even close.  What gives?
