I know there has been some discussion about this in past forums, but have a new question.  Can anyone recommend a good product for healing chafed nipples?  I got some Under Armour shirts (the loose ones) and they've been terrible.

personally I like the Brooks Podium shirt, I haven't had any problems with it. Same thing with the Asics equivalent. I just wear cotton shirts sometimes too without much issue

As for products to prevent/heal a chafed nipple I swear by body glide. There are several products on the market for just such a problem, everyone seems to have their personal preference so I would do some experimenting.

I just use some vaseline on my nipples and under my arms and that works great for me.  I also use the Brooks Podium shirts or just plain cotton t's on most of my runs.  Any kind of lubricant will most likely help.

my wife is a lactation consultant and lanolin works good to heal already chaffed nipples and it's cheap. look for at walmart, target, or your local pharmacy. it will be in the baby section with all the breastfeeding stuff.

    jumbo,

I use bandaids 5/8" round....they stay in place, and prevent the rubbing for me.

although i've never used it, but have had some bad chafing, i've heard that A&D ointment or aloe vera rubbed on the area will help heal the affected area. again, i've never tried, so don't take my word for it.

i'm with JuanDez!! i swear by BodyGlide! i don't use it for my daily training runs, BUT i ran my first half marathon last week and applied BodyGlide EVERYWHERE!!! on my nipples, between my thighs, on my neck, armpit, ribs, anywhere fabric touched my body or where my skin rubbed. yes, overkill, but my skin thanks me for it! LOL!

i ran the half with a nike dri-fit sleeveless shirt and long 9" running shorts. i tried the clothing without BodyGlide and within my first two miles i could feel the rubbing (esp where the innerbrief is and between my legs..chub rub..LOL!) the next day i applied the BodyGlide and to my surprise, no chafing. even after 13.1 miles.

i felt bad for the guy that crossed the finish line with blood around his nipples and streaming down the front of his shirt!! SERIOUSLY, it was that bad!!

try the A&D and see if that helps!

I agree with lots of the posts about BodyGlide  (also a good and less expensive product is called Aquafor).  However, once I get past 13-15 miles in warm weather, the BodyGlide wears off and I'm back in trouble.  So, on long runs, I opt for NipGuards -- I have never had a problem with them slipping off.  Also, in terms of band-aids, make sure you get the sport band-aids.  Regular band-aids have a tendency to come loose and fall off if you are a heavy sweater.

     Good Luck!

Also, there's a lot to be said for wearing a tighter compression style shirt.  That combined with body glide did the trick for me.

    Hi there

I posted this subject about a year ago. I tried Vaseline, no results. Lanolin was not good either (my wife insisted that if it worked for nursing...), but it only ended up staining my shirts (the stains are not coming out after a year).

Round band-aids worked well. However, puting them on and removing them is boring and sometimes I forgot I am wearing them and if i remove the shirt, people stares at you.

The best solution is definitively body glide. It works in long runs and hot weather as well. I also had chaffing from the heart monitor chest band, and it works great for that as well. It does not smells nor stains.

     Good luck

I've been using this vaseline-type product from Whole Foods that seems to work pretty well. It's not actually petroleum-based, for whatever that's worked. Think I'm going to seek out some body glide though. Being among the naturally sweater-vested of men, I'm going to try and stay away from all band-aids!

Body Glide is the best! I finally was able to find it (probably should have thought to go to the Bill Rogers Running Center) and it worked perfectly. No more messy vaseline for me!

Itried vaseline, but all it did was cause my shirt to stick to my nipples. The vaseline would rub off, and chaffing would still occur.
