Description
Event Date: 11/03/2007
Type of Event(s): Ironman
The Ford Ironman Florida triathlon, held in Panama City Beach, Fla. each November, is one of the most popular events on the Ironman schedule. The 2006 event closed to general entry in less than five hours!
Ford Ironman Florida, which will take place for the eight time in 2006, is well known in the triathlon community as an age-group race, and as a great race for first-time Ironman triathletes.
Utilizing the stunning beaches of Panama City Beach, Ironman Florida offers a great opportunity for athletes to get "their feet wet" in Ironman events, and also provides a last competition before the winter season sets in.
Panama City provides a great volunteer network, as the community has played host to the Gulf Coast Triathlon in May for the past 20 + years.

STAGES
This event is a multi-stage event:
-
11/03/2007: 2.4 Mile Swim | View this Route
The swim portion of Ironman Florida begins on the beach behind the Boardwalk Beach Resort, in the Gulf of Mexico. The course is a 2.4-mile two-loop swim. The first loop is rectangular in nature, with athletes actually exiting the water, and doing a turnaround on the beach. Upon re-entrance, athletes take a diagonal (see swim map) angle before reconnecting with the original portion of the swim course, continuing along the second loop until exiting the water at the completion of the swim. After exiting the water, athletes will run up the beach, running up the entrance steps to the Boardwalk, before continuing on to the transistion area.
Note: Ironman North America reserves the right to change the swim portion of the event due to weather or other safety factors.
